Adding and Removing Subawards in the Research.gov Proposal Submission System Just Got Easier!
Effective October 28, 2019, the National Science Foundation (NSF) enhanced the Research.gov proposal submission system to simplify the way proposers manage proposals with subawards. This enhancement allows proposers to quickly and easily change a proposal that was initially set up as a collaborative proposal with a subaward(s) to a non-collaborative proposal and vice versa. This can now be done after a proposal has been initiated, rather than having to create a brand-new proposal to make the change as was previously required.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Five-step Proposal Wizard Update:
- Proposal wizard step five (“Proposal Details”) now only includes the following two options to indicate how the proposal will be submitted:
- Single proposal will be submitted (with or without subawards).
- Multiple proposals will be submitted separately.
- Proposal wizard step five (“Proposal Details”) now only includes the following two options to indicate how the proposal will be submitted:
- The “Single proposal will be submitted (with or without subawards)” radio button will be automatically selected by the system as the default since this is the only option currently supported in Research.gov.
- The second radio button option is presently greyed out. Once this capability is deployed, the option will be available for proposers to select.
- Adding and Removing Subawards from a Proposal:
- To add a subaward to a proposal:
- Navigate to the proposal page and select the “Manage Personnel and Subaward Organizations” button in the “Proposal Actions” box on the left side of the screen.
- Select the “Add Subaward Organization” button in the “Subaward Organization(s)” section and search for the desired organization by Organization Name or by DUNS Number.
- Once the subaward organization has been added to the proposal, the proposal will display “A collaborative proposal from one organization” for Collaborative Status on the proposal Cover Sheet. For more information about collaborative proposals from one organization, please see the Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (NSF 19-1) Chapter II.D.3.
- To add a subaward to a proposal:
- To remove a subaward from a collaborative proposal:
- Navigate to the proposal page and select the “Manage Personnel and Subaward Organizations” button in the “Proposal Actions” box on the left side of the screen.
- Select the “Delete Subaward Organization” link next to the appropriate listed subaward organization in the “Subaward Organization(s)” section.
- Once the subaward organization has been removed from the proposal, the proposal will display “Not a collaborative proposal” for Collaborative Status on the proposal Cover Sheet.
- To remove a subaward from a collaborative proposal:
