Protected: 2024 Federal Government Shutdown

Northeastern University is tracking the potential federal government shutdown on December 20, 2024. If the federal government shuts down, researchers will:

  • Likely be instructed to continue working on active federally sponsored grants and contracts, unless, performance requires the involvement of federal employees or access to US Government facilities
  • NU Researchers may receive correspondence from federal or private company contracting or program officers with updates or guidance. If you receive such information, please alert [email protected]
  • Administrative operations of federally funded agencies and foundations will likely be suspended
  • No new grants or contracts will be awarded and routine support services will likely not be available.
  • Federal agency staff will not be available to approve no-cost extension requests, grant transfers, re-budgeting approvals or other actions requiring agency approval. Thus, if you are in the process of preparing an application or proposal with an upcoming deadline, continue to prepare any necessary documents with the awareness that your deadline may be extended
  • Please pay special attention to research projects that are incrementally funded – modifications to add funding will likely not be available, so PIs should closely monitor costs incurred and coordinate with Associate Deans for Administration & Finance and NU-RES.

NU-RES will continue to update this page as appropriate. Any questions regarding procedures during this possible shutdown can be directed to [email protected].
